Paper Milk Cardstock The Gentleman Crafter

Paper Milk

Paper Cutz recently collaborated with the talented Gentleman Crafter, John Bloodworth. The artistic Gentleman Crafter has been working with a lovely range of  paper milk from Paper Cutz. John works with a range of paper and techniques to create a stunning array of projects, including radiant anime-style illustrations, fairytale-inspired pieces, playful takes on the Gothic and more.

Paper Milk Cardstock Creations

Our paper milk cardstock is an unusual and innovative blend of paper made with milk fibres, cotton fibres and wood-free primary pulp. “The first thing I noticed was how even and smooth the colour went on,” writes John. “The card stock has a slight texture — think subtle hammered texture—and this was acting as a fabulous ‘tooth’ against which the pencils could leave leave their colour. I was really impressed with this card stock.”

The artist also later experimented with water on the card stock, using a water brush in conjunction with some water-soluble graphite pencils. The result was a striking and mischievous little vampire – a unique and affectionate take on more infamous Gothic characters. The Gentleman Crafter commented, “I was very impressed by the card stock’s ability to handle the blending, shading and washing, and I am very happy with the result,”.

For later projects with paper milk cardstock, John experimented with a range of artistic techniques, including blending — adding light strokes of deeper colour to an initial base – the use of shading to create a sense of fabric or texture and achieving a translucent effect with colour. He also experimented with ProMarkers and wetter textures of colour and was delighted when the card stock showed no signs of “bleed”.

“I’m definitely enjoying this little card stock test series,” wrote John of the milk stock. “It’s giving me a chance to try all sorts of colouring mediums and techniques that I don’t always get the chance to do.”

If this ‘gentleman crafter’s’ unique and charming artwork has inspired you to embark on some crafts of your own, be sure to experiment with the full range of exciting, contemporary card stocks and materials to achieve effective and unexpected results.
